It comes as a surprise for most readers, but over half the population of the world has suffered from piles at some point in their life. This is one disease that literally has no bounds of gender, age, creed or anything else. It can happen to children, adults as well as the elderly. It can affect vegetarian, vegans as well as non vegetarians. And once you have it, you can be sure the next couple of weeks at least are going to be comfortable to say the least. If you are suffering from piles this is the right stop for you. While treatments for hemorrhoids range from simple over the counter drugs and laxative to surgery requiring anesthesia, there are some home remedies you can use to curb the disorder on your own. Here’s a small list of things you can do at home.

Let’s first start with what piles are, their types, the causes, and contributing factors, before jumping to the cures. Piles are basically veins that have swollen up and stretched to such a degree that they rupture and bleed. They cause bleeding, sharp pain during bowel movements and dull pain on a constant basis, burning, inflammation in the affected area, irritation in and around the anus, and itching. There are two main types of hemorrhoids. They are either prolapsed internal hemorrhoids or thrombosed external hemorrhoids. Some of the many causes of this disorder are straining while having a bowel movement, diarrhea, constipation, pregnancy, child birth, sitting or standing for long periods of time, lack of exercise, etc. Other factors contributing to this condition are obesity, poor dietary habits, food allergies, improper lifting of heavy things, and inadequate intake of fiber in your daily diet.

Now, for the home remedies with which you can win your battle with piles. If you have a garden or can find an Aloe Vera plant near by, cut a piece of it. Wash the piece clean and peel off its skin with a kitchen peeler. You will find a gel type substance each time you peel. This is the gel you need. You can either directly apply the gel on the anus to relieve pain and sooth the burning sensation, or put the piece in a mixer and create a pulp to be stored in the refrigerator and used from time to time. Apply the gel or pulp at least 3 to 4 times a day for sufficient relief.

If you enjoy drinking tea, here’s a good solution for you. Simply add small pieces of ginger to your tea and a pinch of turmeric powder. Not only the tea be tasty, but also help curb your piles problem. You can also take the effort of keeping your body hydrated by drinking lots of water and other fruit and vegetable juices. If you do not make fresh juice, buy juices that do not have preservatives and have pulp, to give you some extra fiber in your diet.

In India yogurt is a staple with food, mostly because most food preparations use spices. This is soothing and cool for the stomach and digestive system. You can take a small bowl of yogurt everyday mixed with a pinch of black mustard. This works best if followed by a glass of buttermilk.

While all these remedies are helpful, if you are suffering for over a week and don’t seem to feel much relief, it may be time to seek doctor’s consult for piles treatment in Mumbai or any other city. Only a doctor can give you proper guidance and let you know the suitable option for treatment.
